But thats pretty much all thats good about this game honestly.Gameplay is very simplistic just going across linear corridors fighting off the same enemies over and over again with the same attacks over and over. Because you keep moving forward in the same direction this game hardly has any "Metroidvania" elements. The boss battles are fun though, but sometimes can kill you in one hit which gets annoying. And the combat is just 2 attacks depending on what character your playing as it will have different weapons but in the end, they are all the same honestly. The art style does look good with some character models but the backgrounds are very blurry and repeat the same image. The town areas are really wierd cause then the game turns into an over-head view. And it gets confusing where to go for these towns. The music in this game is enjoyable, it fits well with the current settings of the game if your in town or when your fighting enemies. Conclusion: It feels like the developers were trying to add in all the great aspects of a lot of games from the 90s, but lost control on making them good in this game. If this game just focused on being a Castlevania type game I think it would be much better. But for what we have here... pass on this one, its barely average.Rating: 4\/10. I've played about half an hour of The Dream King. I want to like this game. It sounds nice. But music alone does not a good game make. It feels so unpolished - like a high school kids hack at a flash game on Newgrounds. If patches ever come out, I might give it another go.Thank God for Steam Refunds.. The pixel art is fine. The level design is not. I was hoping to at least find gameplay on par with Actraiser on the SNES, which basically amounted to running and jumping left and right, swinging a sword and maybe a magic spell, so the bar already isn't set that high. The controls are tight and responsive and feel fair, sure, but the level and enemy design falls so short of my expectations that I almost want my 99 cents back. The second boss isn't even animated. The ground so far is just right angles with absolutely nothing interesting going on, and the same couple goblin like guys who inexplicably shoot out bland balls of mediocrity. Given the state of the rest of the game, I'm actually surprised they managed to include platforms you can jump down from. The only aspect of this game that I could I feel remotely justified in applauding is how responsive and clean the controls feel. Everything else just feels like someone's half-finished first attempt at making a game.. Plays like alot of the Megaman game and it has Local Multiplayer! so far im having fun with this one!. tl;dr I regret paying a dollar for this, let alone 10.-Small game starts: Long load screen that makes you think it's unresponsive. -Then it displays a long unresponsive intro. -Once you get into the game itself, the story is somewhat skippable and gives a quick description of abilities and lets you go. -It starts you off going right until you go left, then you stop. -You will always automatically move right when you've started going. -This will murder your boss fights as you will constantly have to go back and forth instead of staying still. -There is no ducking, so you will have to jump over orbs that other games you would think would pass over you.-The controls aren't responsive enough to jump over the orbs effectively.-Uninstalled as any sane person would.. Task manager to the rescue.. The controller is bugged: it keep on running on the right side of the screen, making it impossible to play. Overall I enjoyed my time with this game, the SNES style graphics, and music takes you on a nostalgia trip back to the glory days of gaming! There are a few technical issues with the game starting with the long load time(takes close to two minutes for me). Toward the end of the game I ran into a few code error messages, but not frequently enough to ruin my experience. The collision is also a bit suspect at times. I could go through a lot of walls that you are not meant to go through, and even suffered a few cheap deaths from falling through the ground. I also had a bit of trouble setting up my controller initially, I had to use JoyToKey to get it to works, since my Sabrent controller was not compatible at all; however that more likely an issue with the engine and not the game itself. These issues aside I really enjoyed the gameplay. There are a ton of secret sprinkled throughout the land, and I had a lot of fun just getting lost and exploring. The combat is also pretty enjoyable too and you are given a nice variety of characters to adventure with!Pros: Nice graphics and music. Many Secrets to Discover.Good Variety of Characters. Cons: Long Load Time.A bit buggy with suspect collision and a few code error pop ups.Setting up controller was a bit of a hassle.
